Since the introduction of the two six-fold vaccines HEXAVAC and INFANRIX HEXA, five children across the EU have died within 24 hours of vaccination
01.04.2015
Since the introduction of the two six-fold vaccines HEXAVAC and INFANRIX HEXA in autumn 2000, five children across the EU have died within 24 hours of the vaccination. That reports the drug telegram. Four suspicious transaction reports come from Germany, one from Austria. To date, around 1.6 million children in Germany have been vaccinated with six-fold vaccines. This results in a frequency of one suspect report per 400,000 children.
The deceased children were 4, 5, 17 and 23 months old. Everyone was considered healthy. It cannot be assumed that risk factors such as family cramps are the cause of the deaths or that sudden child death (SIDS) may be involved.
Despite the deaths, the EMEA sees no reason to reassess the two vaccines. The drug telegram does not share this opinion and advises to resort to proven, less valued vaccines until clarification is reached. (pm)
